Dresden in the aftermath of the destruction in February 1945
The 360° DRESDEN 1945 Panorama depicts the capital of Saxony in the immediate aftermath of the air raids in February 1945. The former baroque city of Dresden lies in ruins – the view from the tower of the Town Hall illustrating the extent of the destruction in the Second World War. The multi-media accompanying exhibition sets the Panorama in the contemporary context while outlining the development of the city after the baroque era through to the beginnings of National Socialism. The Panorama itself, with its imposing size (27 x 107 metres), a suitable soundscape as well as a light simulation, provides a real impression of the situation and leaves its visitors in a reflective state of mind for the concluding film, in which contemporary eyewitnesses describe the various stages of the subsequent reconstruction of Dresden after 1945.
